As one cascades down Route 1 just south of San Francisco and heads into the surfer town of Pacifica, Soul Grind Coffee Roasters awaits with incredible coffee , fantastic food, a vibe that oozes surfer coolness and baristas and staff that aim to change the arc of your day for the better. For a nanosecond, I even thought I could surf!
Coffee:
A pour over of their single origin Columbian combined with their Phoenician espresso was velvet on the tongue. It almost felt like I was drinking a meal. My traveling partners were equally impressed with their cortado and a “cliffside” latte.
Barista:
An infectious smile and bopping to the great tunes being played made it an easy entre to a conversation. Soul Grind is a busy place, but each and every customer seems to be welcomed with eye contact and a wanting to serve. There were two baristas cranking out the drinks with efficiency and kindness. We actually went to Soul Grind twice during the weekend, and the people taking our order remembered our names; details that set you apart as an enterprise.
Vibe:
The shop sits as the end of a strip mall, yet it gives off a very different feel. As you come into the lot, there are people getting out of their cars and getting their wet suits on or just coming back from surfing a mere 100 yards away. Kind of sets the tone as you enter the shop where great indie/americana tunes are emanating. There is a really cool mural and a great menu board along with a thoughtful pastry counter. The overhead doors open up to some outside tables and there is also a back deck for outside lounging. There is plenty of space in the inside (some communal) along with a great fireplace seat. Let’s not forget that not only is their coffee super yummy, but their food offerings and food quality is phenomenal! Great healthy breakfasts await as your complement to a great cup. Finally, a cool logo (no surprise) and good merch completes the deal.
Make You Better
This is being picky, but the merch (which was good) was limited in scope and the hat I wanted to buy was sold out.
Soul Grind embraces the geography it occupies and enhances the ethos of the surfer vibe. Find a way to get to Pacifica when you are in the San Francisco area and get grounded at Soul Grind!
