sightglass coffee
270 Seventh street san francisco CA
In the heart of SOMA lies a California coffee gem. A gorgeous two story light filled bow trussed building gives the customer an inside look into the inner workings of roasting, education and a truly great space to enjoy superior coffee.
Coffee:
The Cubito Gautemalan roast paired with the Crown Point espresso was a superlative cup with an overriding fruit medley with a chocolate base. Others in our traveling troupe were really pleased with their whole milk latte and drip.
Barista:
Perhaps because it was early, it seemed like our coffee curators were easing into the day and maybe not in accompaniment mode. We asked some questions to try and engage, but it seemed like we were pulling teeth. Upon picking my drink up from the bar, I did have a nice exchange with the barista on the coffee being served and their process.
Vibe:
Sightglass oozes cool aura. From the open roasting environ to the very large barista bar to the ample bar seating and a second floor toast bar and additional seating, this place screams visual warmth. There is even a tasting room (and of course their corporpate office). I really want to try their other locations in SF as well as LA because they really are paying attention to detail and their brand. A robust bakery offering was also good to see with sweet and savory options. Great musical options replete with Wilco’s “California Stars” made it a special stop indeed.
Make You Better:
On a cool SF morning, it would have been nice to have the heat going as no patron dared to take their coat off.
Sightglass is definitely a California Star in the specialty coffee world of San Francisco. Can hardly wait for my next visit to the Golden Gate
