Moving through the dreaded Pennsylvania Turnpike about an hour from Philadelphia, there is an oasis of coffee and Pennsylvania Dutch goodness in the town of Elvserson PA. A real respite where you will enjoy tasty coffee, great eats and a downright cool vibe.
Coffee:
Eastern Pennyslvania is on Matt’s frequent visit list and honestly it’s always been a little vexing on the specialty coffee front. However, the “find” of Morgantown Coffee House has changed the game. Morgantown utilizes Collective Coffee Roasters and the Synergy roast is better than the sum of its parts with all deference to Buckminster Fuller. It’s chocolate and citrus hints shine through. They were brewing both the Aricha Mill and the Synergy which allows a choice.
Barista:
Super friendly folk at MHC. Always patient with our large family groups that have frequented after my inaugural visit a couple years ago. After one day of being back in the area, the barista remembers my drink which is always a smile. There have been times that it becomes a little transactional, but mostly they are really helping to change the arc of the day in a good way.
Vibe:
The front room is where you order your coffee and food. There is a large communal table that is great for work and the natural light shines through. There is a local artist merch section in this room as well. The back room gives off an old country home vibe where you can sink into a chair or while away the day doing work or reading a book at the tables. The food here is delish and there are some excellent breakfast selections. Also, the vibe is greatly enhanced by some very good Americana music on their playlists. Seems to go on brand with a coffee house that oozes comfort.
Make You Better
I absolutely love Morgantown Coffee Shop. I think they could do a little with their own merch as they have a cool logo. I suppose that the knowledge of the baristas could increase over time and then more substantive coffee conversations could take place.
Running through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania, Morgantown Coffee House is a house of coffee love. I think they say it best on their mug, “Good Food, Good Coffee, Good Times”
