PUSH X PULL COFFEE

821 SE STARK

PORTLAND OREGON 97214

A concert womple to see the beloved Decemberists in their hometown playing with the Oregon Symphony, led us to the great city of Portland replete with its bounty of great coffee experiences. At the top of this list was Push X Pull and their shop on Stark Street. Outrageously good coffee and friendly people make a great start to the day in this world class city.

Coffee:

We were guided by a barista at a different coffee shop that Push x Pull was her favorite so we hustled over after a quick espresso to the Stark Street location. The drip coffee was a Mexico Finca Fatima which was stone fruity with a great hint of nutmeg. The latte was also beautifully done and quite tasty. Love the fact that they are proud of their top 100 coffee shops in the country in 2025 and its well deserved by the coffee taste and presentation.

Barista:

Oh so friendly and willing to assist, answer questions and not be transactional. Even though there was a steady stream of customers, she spent time curating and when I asked where she would go for coffee, she mentioned Deadstock (408 NW Couch) and we hit it the next day (“Coffee should be dope” sign from Deadstock.) Great recommendation and leads one to believe that the Portland specialty coffee community is really inclusive.

Vibe:

A minimalist yet warm vibe seems to permeate. Good seating (although probably not meant for long periods of working). The fantastic natural light, foliage and really good tunes emanating from the shop brought a smile. Loved the simple design of their t shirt and the coffee/merch display. There is a really simple warehouse aesthetic to the shop that is grand.

Make You Better

It only seems fitting that the “make you better” sidles itself next to marquis. There is not much to say here although I think there could be a little bit more on the pastry side and maybe a little diversity of seating arrangements - perhaps a couch and a rug??

An awesome road trip to one of the great outdoor cities in America from it’s great hiking to its fantastic farmers markets to its exemplary music (Decemberists crushed it with the Oregon Symphony), to its phenomenal coffee at Push x Pull. Thank you Portland for a great adventure!
